Patricia romero verdugo | PhD Student
Patricia Romero Verdugo obtained a Bachelor's degree in Psychology at the University of Malaga (Spain), and a Master's degree in Cognitive Neuroscience (Cum Laude) at Radboud University Nijmegen (the Netherlands). She was awarded a Donders Institute TopTalent PhD grant to pursue research on the mechanisms underlying curiosity and information seeking. She is jointly supervised by Roshan Cools and Floris de Lange. Patricia studies the mechanisms underlying curiosity, and is trying to understand why we seek information that does not serve an obvious purpose. Humans and other animals are curious by nature. Sometimes, we seek information because it helps us come closer to our goals. However, in many cases we find information appealing in itself, and we are even willing to sacrifice valuable resources to obtain it. During her PhD, Patricia aims to shed some insight into the factors that determine what makes us curious, especially when we seek information that serves no clear purpose.
