I am interested in “computational psychiatry”, an emerging field built on recent developments in machine learning and computational neuroscience, which promises to construct computational models of brain and behavior to help prevention, diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders. In particular, I am interested in computational modeling of learning and decision-making in humans, their underlying neural mechanisms and their pathologies.

He was a post-doctoral researcher working with Roshan Cools at Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behavior, where he completed his doctoral studies in cognitive neuroscience under supervision of Ivan Toni and Roshan. My background is control engineering in which I obtained my bachelor and masters from University of Tehran, Iran. Payam continued as a post-doctoral researcher at Princeton neuroscience institute with Nathaniel Daw.
