Following his bachelor's degrees in biology and philosophy, Romain studied cognitive neuroscience at the École Normale Supérieure (Paris). After completing his master's degree in 2010, he joined the team of Jean-Claude Dreher (CNRS, Lyon) to work on the neurocomputational mechanisms involved in the emergence of social hierarchies, using fMRI, tDCS, and intracranial recordings in humans. In january 2015, he moved to the Donders Institute to initiate a project supported by the Fyssen foundation. In the group of Roshan Cools, he is now investigating the (meta)regulation of cognitive control, as well as the putative role of serotonin in this complex process.
