Ruben van den Bosch obtained a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences and a Master's degree in Cognitive Neuroscience at the Radboud University Nijmegen. For the Cognitive Neuroscience Research Master he did a one-year internship with Bram Zandbelt, in which he used fMRI to study the neural mechanisms of selective response inhibition. After the internship he stayed in the lab as a research assistant, working with Esther Aarts and Lieneke Janssen on analyzing the effect of behavioral interventions on habitual eating habits and neural markers of habitual behavior. After a half-year hiatus from Roshan's lab he returned as a PhD student.
In his PhD he investigates how baseline dopamine levels mediate the effects of dopaminergic drug manipulations. To address this question he combines pharmacological manipulations with positron emission tomography (PET) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).
